Comparison of IRA Training Options

On Site Seminars

Pro:

Courses can be customized to suit the special needs of the institution.

Courses can be scheduled to match the availability of participants with minimal effect of the business

Supports building knowledge and support of the institution's team

Emphasize the individual institution's policies and procedures

Interaction with group aids in learning process ... far superior to CBT's (Computer Based Training Courses) and/or Independent study. Learning becomes less painful.

Interaction with a familiar group creates a more comfortable environment for asking questions.

Con:

Usually, a more expensive training option ... but not with The IRA Tutor's unbelievably low rates! You can generally train your group cheaper than you can send two or three people to an off site seminar!

Off Site Seminars

Pro:

Well suited to training one person at a time.

Interaction with group aids in learning process ... far superior to CBT's (Computer Based Training Courses) and/or Independent study. Learning becomes less painful.

Con:

Courses are generalized to cater to the more diverse audience from multiple institutions.

Does not reinforce the institution's specific policies and procedures.

Many individuals find it difficult to ask questions or offer comments in an unfamiliar group.

An expensive method to train larger groups. Typically, seminar fees for off-site seminars run between $175-250+ per attendee, plus any necessary travel and lodging expense.

Computer Based Training (CBTs)

Pro:

Well suited to training one person at a time.

Superior to Independent study. Programmed learning plan and experience.

Depending on Training License, may be cheaper method of providing some very basic training.

Con:

Courses are generalized to cater to the more diverse audience from multiple institutions.

Does not reinforce the institution's specific policies and procedures.

No interaction with group to aid understanding difficult or abstract concepts ... repetition alone doesn't always make up for a lack of relevant and meaningful examples to which the student can relate.

Unable to ask questions or offer comments which provide clarifying opportunities.

Does not aid in building a group experience and sense of shared knowledge.

Requires a disciplined training program for both the organization and the employee to achieve measurable results.

Independent Study

Pro:

Suited to training one person at a time.

Inexpensive training method.

Good method for experienced and motivated persons to augment their training and need to be current in technical areas.

Con:

Materials tend to be either very general and abstracted or extremely detailed. This may result in a lot of expended effort without a corresponding gain in knowledge.

Does not reinforce the institution's specific policies and procedures.

A non-interactive mode of training ... resulting in a slower and less certain training outcome.
